What it's about

This tour takes you on a journey through the history of the Kaltehofe waterworks. Alongside the function of the filter basins and valve houses, it covers how Hamburg's water supply has changed over the years. The tour ends at the "Stadt.Wasser.Kunst" exhibition in the Kubus.

Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe combines an industrial heritage site, nature park, and exhibition: since 1893, drinking water for Hamburg has been filtered here, following the major cholera epidemic.

Around the filter basins, discovery trails also let you spot wildlife like grey herons, swans, and beavers — there's no classic playground here, but plenty of nature and open space to explore.
