At the Zentralbibliothek, families can borrow picture books, early readers, non-fiction, manga, comics, Tonies, audiobooks, DVDs, and games across several floors. The Library of Things also provides robotics kits, tools, and more. Free events take place regularly: Gedichte für Wichte for the youngest visitors, picture-book cinema, and read-aloud sessions for daycare and primary-school children, plus workshops, holiday hands-on activities, and formats for teens around gaming or creative writing.
For families, the Zentralbibliothek is appealing because it's one of Germany's largest public libraries and holds multilingual collections. The rooms are bright, with plenty of seating and workspaces, a cafe, and group rooms — good for a half-day of reading, browsing, and breaks.
The entrance is on Arno-Schmidt-Platz, just minutes from the main station, making the library conveniently reachable from all of Hamburg and the surrounding region, and easy to combine with a stroll through the city.
