At the Speicherstadtmuseum, children can lift sacks, smell coffee samples, and try out loading equipment. With the character Kalle, de lütte Quartiersmann, there's a rally through the exhibition, plus search games for younger children. The permanent exhibition shows how warehouse workers in the past managed, inspected, and stored coffee, tea, spices, cocoa, and rubber — with original sacks, scales, tools, and sample bags.
The building itself, from 1888, with coffee hoists, floor hatches, and brick facades, is part of the exhibition. Creaking wooden floors immediately convey the atmosphere of a Hamburg warehouse district. For older children and teenagers, guided tours through the Speicherstadt itself are a good fit, explaining buildings, canals (Fleete), and bridges.
U-Bahn stations Baumwall or Meßberg are a few minutes' walk away. Combines well with a HafenCity stroll, a barge tour, the International Maritime Museum, or Miniatur Wunderland.
