Museum Schwedenspeicher is housed in a former provisions building of the Swedish garrison (built 1692 to 1705) at Wasser West in Stade. The permanent exhibitions cover the archaeology of the Elbe-Weser triangle, the history of the Hanseatic League, and local city history, presented with multimedia elements including a city model and a "time machine." According to the museum, the exhibitions include many interactive elements so that younger visitors don't get bored either; the exhibition guide is specifically designed for families. From May 10 to November 1, 2026, the hands-on special exhibition "Studieren, Probieren, Experimentieren" runs, marking 20 years of experimental archaeology at the University of Hamburg. Children's birthday parties for ages 6 to 12 (such as "On the Trail of the Mammoth" or "Pirate Birthday") last 90 to 120 minutes. The building is accessible at ground level, an elevator serves all floors, and there is a wheelchair-accessible restroom in the foyer. The Stade museums are certified as part of Kinderferienland Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony children's holiday program).
