At ErlebnisWald Trappenkamp, children can watch wild boar, deer, and other forest animals from observation huts, climb a large climbing tower, roam through a Western fort, and try out balance and movement stations. Themed trails playfully teach knowledge about trees, soil, and forest animals. The Waldhaus has exhibitions on local nature and forest-education programs such as guided tours and holiday activities.
The grounds, run by the Schleswig-Holstein state forestry service, cover more than a hundred hectares and lie just under an hour north of Hamburg. The offerings are aimed mainly at children between four and twelve, ideal for half a day to a full day outdoors. There are barbecue spots, a kiosk, and a restaurant serving game dishes.
Getting there by car via the A7 Großhansdorf exit or the A21 toward Segeberg, with plenty of parking. Harder to reach without a car, as bus connections are sparse. Main paths are stroller-friendly, while smaller forest trails are left natural — pack rubber boots for muddy days. Especially atmospheric in autumn.
