Good to know

At Altonaer Museum, kids can visit exhibitions on children's book illustrations at the Kinderbuchhaus, and take part in readings and workshops. In the Wunderkammer, visitors research, sort, draw and experiment for themselves. Regular family Sundays, rallies, birthday parties and holiday programs take place, along with tours designed specifically for children.

The collection ranges from shipping and fishing to figureheads and farmhouse parlors to historic toy collections, folk costumes and entire reconstructed period rooms. Temporary exhibitions address current topics, such as Jewish history or migration in Altona.

The museum is located right by Altona station and is barrier-free; admission is usually free for children and teens. A visit pairs well with a stroll through Altona's old town or a trip to the nearby Elbe riverbank.
