What it's about
This trip winds through narrow canals and under numerous old and new bridges through Hamburg's former free port area, past the impressive Elbphilharmonie. The architectural contrast between the historic Speicherstadt and the modern HafenCity becomes especially clear.
The roughly two-hour tour starts at the Jungfernstieg landing stage. The canal tour through the Speicherstadt is considered one of the most exciting parts of the Alster boat program: the boats wind under low bridges through narrow canals, with a lock and harbor views.
