The white Alster boats of the ATG depart from the Jungfernstieg pier for tours that, for families, usually offer the most beautiful introduction to Hamburg's waterways. Especially exciting for children is the fleet trip through the Speicherstadt: the boats wind under low bridges through narrow canals, complete with a lock and harbor views.
Alongside the classic Alster tour of around 50 minutes, there are longer canal and Vierlande tours as well as the Alster cruise, which works like a hop-on-hop-off ferry stopping at several points around the Outer Alster. Drinks and snacks are available on board, and most boats have a covered lower deck for rainy days.
Strollers are usually welcome on board; it's worth asking in advance about accessibility. Children up to six years old often ride free, and family tickets are available. Tickets can be bought online or at the pier.
