Good to know
At Weltvogelpark Walsrode, families can watch daily shows: in the large flight show, birds of prey, owls, and parrots often fly close over the audience's heads. At commentated feedings of penguins and pelicans, children get up close to the action. In free-flight halls, tropical birds can be experienced without any barriers. Playgrounds and a small rides area are scattered across the grounds.
Across 24 hectares, more than 4,000 birds from hundreds of species live here, from penguins and parrots to flamingos, owls, eagles, and cranes. Penguin Bay and the pelican feeding at the shallow water basin are especially popular. Meet-and-greet formats with penguins, parrots, or birds of prey can be booked for an extra fee. Ideal age range is three to ten.
Plan a full day for a visit. It's about an hour's drive south of Hamburg. Dogs are not allowed, and the park is closed in winter. Annual passes are worthwhile for multiple visits per season.
