Good to know
From Deichstraße, families set off on guided walks such as Hamburg for Kids or the Hafendetektive, in which children solve puzzles as they move through the city. Even children's birthday parties become small investigations this way. The tours are designed so that younger participants stay engaged too.
Stattreisen Hamburg is an association that has offered guided walks, bike tours, and themed tours for over 35 years. From the meeting point at the corner of Steintwiete, tours classically set off covering Hamburg's history, the Great Fire of 1842, and the old merchant houses on Deichstraße.
The meeting point isn't a building but the street corner. U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations Rathaus and Rödingsmarkt are a few minutes' walk away, and the Speicherstadt is right next door. Book tickets online in advance, as groups are often limited in size. In bad weather, bring a raincoat rather than rebooking.
