Good to know

At St. Pauli Theater on Spielbudenplatz, families mainly see performances by the Junges St. Pauli Theater for children and young people, alongside cross-generational productions such as book adaptations or musical programs. In the neighboring Hansa-Theatersaal, further plays run, often with a somewhat different character.

The house is one of Germany's oldest private theatres and has been operating since 1841. The auditorium is small, with velvet seats and a stage close to the front rows, which also makes it an easy entry point for younger audience members. The breadth of program and prominent guests make it a good address for a first theatre visit outside the purely children's genres.

The U-Bahn station St. Pauli is right outside, and during the day the Reeperbahn feels noticeably calmer. The historic building is not fully accessible; wheelchair users should call ahead before visiting.
