At Ponyclub Ohlendorf, children and teenagers can experience a herd of more than 20 ponies and horses in an open stable, join in vaulting, groom the ponies and take part in small riding lessons. Children as young as about two can start making first contact with the animals, usually accompanied by parents or older siblings. On top of that there are project days, holiday programs and farm festivals.
The nonprofit association wants to give all children and teenagers access to animals, nature and community, regardless of background or financial means. The ponies live on the farm for life, some in retirement. Many older children take on responsibility for particular animals or tasks, which is pedagogically valuable and enables real bonds.
The farm is on Alter Postweg in Seevetal-Ohlendorf, a few kilometers south of Hamburg. Visits are open or by registration depending on the offer.
