Good to know
At the Polizeimuseum Hamburg, children can look at uniforms, equipment and service vehicles from different eras, walk through recreated crime scenes, and read original case files from spectacular crimes in Hamburg. A key focus is forensics: fingerprint systems and evidence collection are explained vividly and are especially exciting for children interested in detective work.
The museum is best suited for children from about age ten who are interested in history, law or criminology. Parents should note that some exhibits contain crime-scene photos or references to violent crimes, which may not be suitable for younger children. Dark chapters, such as the police's role during the Nazi era, are also addressed.
The building is located on the grounds of the police academy between Alsterdorf and Stadtpark and is open several days a week. A visit takes one to two hours and can be combined with Stadtpark or the Alster.
