Good to know

At NABU Hamburg's events, families head outdoors together with volunteer nature guides and discover the animal and plant world right outside their door. On birding tours such as "What's singing there?" children learn to recognize bird species by their song and call; on bat tours with their own children's program they watch the silent hunters of the night at the pond; and on insect, herb, or dragonfly excursions they head through moors, meadows, parks, and along Hamburg's waters with magnifying glass and binoculars.

NABU is a nature conservation association, not a fixed place: the meeting points change and are spread across all of Hamburg, from Planten un Blomen and the Ohlsdorf cemetery to the Duvenstedter Brook. Many events are aimed at adults; this app shows the family-friendly offerings, often suitable for children from around 4 years old when accompanied. Those who like to pitch in can help at hands-on action days on orchard meadows or along the Lebendige Alster.

All offerings take place outdoors and are often canceled in steady rain, so sturdy shoes, weatherproof clothing, and ideally a pair of binoculars help. Registration via the NABU website is almost always required, as the number of participants is limited.
