Good to know

At the Museum der Arbeit, children can print themselves on old printing presses, work in the etching workshop and bookbindery, and experiment with 3D printers in the mini makerspace. In the outdoor courtyard stands TRUDE, a fourteen-meter-tall tunnel-boring head from the fourth Elbe tunnel, which helps children grasp scale.

For families with school-age children, the museum is rewarding, as large historic machines regularly run in operation, making printing, pressing and shaping tangible. Rotating exhibitions on themes like the working world or care work appeal especially to older children and teenagers. There are children's birthday parties, holiday programs and tours for daycare and school groups.

The museum sits right on the U3 Barmbek line, in the brick ensemble of the former Gummi-Waaren Compagnie. Stadtpark and the Planetarium are within walking distance and combine well into a longer family day.
