Good to know

Loki-Schmidt-Garten, the University of Hamburg's Botanical Garden in Klein Flottbek, opens its gates daily from 9am; admission is free, though donations are welcome. Alongside its plant diversity, the spacious grounds also offer a dedicated children's program: volunteer-led tours for daycare groups and elementary school classes, performances by the children's and youth ensemble Zirkus Zartinka in early summer, the Papillon marionette theater during summer holidays, and hands-on activities such as the North German Apple Days with craft stations. Through the Green School, school classes can book free, roughly two-hour guided explorations and plant material. The show greenhouses at Dammtor are currently closed for renovation.
