Good to know
Lighthouse is the science discovery center of the European XFEL in Schenefeld, right on Hamburg's city border. Since opening in November 2024, the interactive permanent exhibition 'Curtain Up for Science' shows how the 3.4-kilometer-long X-ray laser works, which begins at the DESY campus in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld and ends in Schenefeld. Numerous interactive exhibits, multimedia stations, and original parts invite visitors of all ages to try things out. Admission is free. Once a month, Science Saturdays take place — with craft and experiment activities such as LED cards or self-built instruments, also free of charge. In the Xcool Lab, school classes experiment in a real physics and molecular biology laboratory.
