Good to know

Here, children experience classical music up close: in Studio E, the smallest hall of the Laeiszhalle with about 150 seats and terraced rows of seating, children's formats take place such as the Hasi concerts of the Symphoniker Hamburg for the very youngest from age two or three, and the Funkelkonzerte of the Elbphilharmonie for roughly four- to eight-year-olds. The concerts are tailored to age and often interactive, with a host and short activities introducing the instruments.

Thanks to the small hall size, children sit very close to the musicians, which works especially well for a first contact with classical music. Both series are a fixed part of Hamburg's music-education program and usually sell out quickly, so early ticket booking is worthwhile.

The Laeiszhalle opened in 1908 and sits right by the Messehallen U-Bahn station, reachable on foot from Dammtor or Gänsemarkt. Before or after a concert, Planten un Blomen makes a good option.
