Good to know

At the International Maritime Museum, children from about six years old can try piloting a container giant into the harbor on the ship-handling simulator on Deck 1. Nine exhibition decks hold thousands of finely detailed ship models, historic instruments, uniforms, and original pieces such as the deck chairs from the Normandie. Themed children's rallies, family tours, and special exhibitions keep the visit varied.

Each deck has its own theme, ranging from orientation and navigation to voyages of discovery, wartime, merchant, and passenger shipping, through to oceanography and art of the sea. In total, roughly 12,000 square meters house the world's largest private maritime collection, inside the historic Kaispeicher B from 1879. With children, it's worth picking a few decks deliberately and planning two to three hours.

The museum is located in HafenCity, a few minutes from U4 Überseequartier and the Elbphilharmonie. Elevators provide accessibility between all decks.
