Good to know
At Hof Dannwisch, children can use stations at the big festivals for wood turning, crate climbing, and archery, practice milking on a wooden cow, listen to fairy tales, and go gemstone hunting. Many activities require no registration and can be visited at your own pace. At the spring festival with young-plant sales there are plants, farm tours, campfire bread on a stick, and a farm stand with the farm's own produce.
The farm is run organically and serves as a home, workplace, and meeting place for several families. Throughout the year there are harvest festivals, a Christmas market, and smaller themed days. Even visitors unfamiliar with the concept of Solawi (community-supported agriculture) get a good sense of it on these days. Food comes from regional organic partners.
Dannwisch is about an hour's drive west of Hamburg, best reached via the A23. Sturdy shoes are a good idea, as it gets muddy in wet weather.
