Good to know
On the edge of the Höltigbaum nature reserve in Hamburg-Rahlstedt lies Haus der Wilden Weiden, run by the Stiftung Natur im Norden foundation. The exhibition inside tells the story of the wild pastures and farming at Höltigbaum, and a 'time machine' leads back to the Ice Age — complete with replica arrows of the reindeer hunters from the Ahrensburg tunnel valley. For children there's a dedicated area with audio stories and feely boxes, plus holiday programs, birthday parties, and events like the family bat tour (from age 8); children's events start from age 4. Admission is free, donations welcome — an ideal starting point for a trip into the pasture landscape.
