At the opera stabile, families can experience age-appropriate music theater productions, many suitable for children from as young as two or three years old. Pieces such as Ebbe und Flut or Alleine usually run around 45 minutes and use the closeness to the audience to bring music, storytelling, and play together. Performance times are often early afternoon or early evening, easy for families to plan around.

The small sister stage of the Hamburg State Opera is located in the same building complex on Dammtorstraße, with its own entrance. The hall is noticeably smaller than the main house, and the seating is arranged in tiers, a semicircle, or without a classic seating order, depending on the production.
