Good to know

The Hamburg Rathaus on Rathausmarkt was built in the North German Renaissance style and is the seat of the Senate and the Bürgerschaft (state parliament). The Rathausdiele, the central foyer, is usually freely accessible during opening hours, and free exhibitions are held there. The inner courtyard with the Hygieia fountain can usually also be explored freely.

Rathaus tours last about 45 to 60 minutes. Adults and teenagers pay 8 euros, 6 euros with the HamburgCARD, and children up to 14 are free. The Bürgerschaft also offers free children's tours for ages 5 to 13, for families during the March, summer and autumn holidays. In the plenary chamber, the children slip into the role of members of parliament.

Tickets are available only at the info desk in the foyer from 20 minutes before the first tour, card payment only, no reservations. Until the end of October, German-language tours start every half hour, and from November every hour. Strollers and luggage are not allowed. Children's tours: register on 040 42831-2409.
