Good to know
In the 450-square-meter tropical house, kept at 26 degrees, children can see over 1,000 butterflies from around the world — some curiously land on a shoulder or hand. At a dedicated station, chrysalises hang from which new butterflies soon emerge, so the metamorphosis can be watched firsthand. Around the tropical house stretches an expansive park with paths, benches, play areas, and picnic spots.
The combination of an exotic tropical house and a classic landscape park is especially appealing for families: wonder indoors, running around outdoors. The team is on hand with information about species, metamorphosis, and plants. Group tours, children's birthday parties, and themed days round out the program. Founded in 1985, it is Germany's oldest butterfly garden.
Open seasonally from spring to autumn. Access by car or S-Bahn (Aumühle), with parking on site. Pairs well with a walk in the Sachsenwald.
