At the Elbphilharmonie, families can join family concerts, sound safaris, workshops, and rehearsal visits — formats range from sing-along concerts for the youngest children to complex programs for teenagers, often from around age six. Guest concerts, for instance by the NDR Bigband, bring jazzy, story-driven family concerts to the house, such as those built around musical characters like Erwin mit der Tröte.
Beyond the concert itself, it's worth heading up to the Plaza at 37 meters, which is free to enter without a concert ticket. From there you can discover Hamburg from an unusual perspective before continuing on to the harbor or the Speicherstadt. The glass structure atop a former warehouse is a landmark of HafenCity.
The building is very well connected by U-Bahn, bus, and harbor ferries. Children's concerts and family workshops are often booked out weeks in advance — check the program early.
