Good to know
At Dialoghaus Hamburg, blind guides lead families through everyday scenes such as a park, a market, or a harbor in complete darkness during Dialogue in the Dark. In Dialogue in Silence, deaf guides take over and guide visitors purely through facial expressions, gestures, and body language. For younger children there's the format Kids im Dialog from around age three, and for older ones Abenteuer der Sinne with combined stations.
The experiences last 60 to 90 minutes and are especially suited to focused children from around age six. The house is a social enterprise where most of the team are people with disabilities. Many families describe the visit as an intense shared experience that gives plenty to talk about afterward.
Tickets should be reserved online in advance, since the tours start in fixed group sizes. In Dialogue in the Dark it really is completely pitch black, and some children need a moment to orient themselves. Combines well with the Speicherstadtmuseum or Miniatur Wunderland on rainy days.
