Good to know
At the Deutsches Hafenmuseum, families can board the four-masted barque PEKING, a cargo sailing ship built in 1911 and part of the Flying P-Liner family. Tours offer insights into ship technology, sailors' everyday life, and maritime superstitions. On the outdoor grounds stand further historical harbor vessels, such as the steam tug SAUGER IV and the steam crane SAATSEE. The exhibition depot displays tools, machines, and cargo goods.
For children there are programs such as Hafen-Scouts for primary-school classes, workshops in the Hafenmanufaktur covering knot-tying, sailmaking, and blacksmithing, as well as activities like bracing on board, where children move the PEKING's own rigging themselves. On event days the site is especially lively.
The first publicly accessible area is at Schuppen 50A on Australiastraße. Getting there via Elbbrücken S-Bahn station; on weekends a vintage shuttle bus runs to Schuppen 50A. Alternatively, the Maritime Circle Line brings families by launch from Baumwall.
