At Chocoversum, guides take families through all the steps of chocolate-making in 90 minutes, from the fresh cocoa pod through roasting and conching to the finished product. At around six stations there are samples, including raw cocoa beans, cocoa nibs, and various types of chocolate. Children get to pull chocolate on a machine themselves. The highlight is your own bar: every guest chooses between white, milk, or dark chocolate and decorates it with up to three ingredients such as almonds, cornflakes, fruit pieces, or gummy bears. Once set, the bar is wrapped up to take home.
The tour suits children from around age six; younger ones often struggle to stay focused for the full 90 minutes. Tickets should be booked online for a fixed time slot. Guests with allergies receive information on ingredients, the tour is offered in German and English, and there are suitable programs for school classes and kids' birthday parties.
Chocoversum is located at Messberg in Hamburg's old town, just minutes from the Speicherstadt and city hall, with Messberg U-Bahn station within walking distance.
