Good to know
The Bücherhalle Schnelsen on Wählingsallee is the neighborhood library in northwest Hamburg. Reading promotion for children up to age 12 is its focus. There is reading training for children and a Library of Things with robots and sewing machines.
On Fridays from 4 to 5 pm there is reading aloud for children, on Tuesdays at 3:30 pm picture-book cinema runs, and from November fairy tales for children follow on Tuesdays. There are also lantern crafts, a Scratch workshop and a family Saturday for Library Day. The Bücherhallen card costs 3 euros a year by direct debit for children up to age 8 and 6 euros for 9- to 17-year-olds, and is free with proof of the Bildungs- und Teilhabepaket (education and participation package).
With staff on site, the library is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 1:30 pm and from 2:30 to 6 pm. The remaining hours until 10 pm are FlexiBib hours for adults aged 18 and over with a card only. The Wählingsallee stop is right at the door. The payment machine is currently out of order.
