Bücherhalle Rahlstedt with kids

The Bücherhalle Rahlstedt on Amtsstraße, a three-minute walk from Rahlstedt station, shows itself in a new look after extensive renovation for its 100th birthday and spans two floors. Its focus is supplying children and schoolchildren with media; there is also a Library of Things with robotics sets and sewing machines.

For children there is regular picture-book cinema at 4 pm, painting and LEGO DUPLO afternoons alternating on Fridays, and programming sessions with LEGO Spike. Primary school children in 2nd and 3rd grade who struggle with reading receive weekly one-to-one reading training with volunteers. The Bücherhallen card costs 3 euros a year for children up to age 8 and 6 euros for 9- to 17-year-olds.

With staff on site, the branch is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 7 pm, Wednesdays and Fridays until 6 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm; unstaffed FlexiBib applies only to adults with a card. The entrance door opens with a push button, the upper floor is reachable by stairs or elevator, and the accessible toilet is unlocked on request. Returns are also possible outside opening hours.
