Good to know

At the Bücherhalle Holstenstraße, families can discover picture books, early readers, non-fiction for primary-school children, and young-adult literature in the clearly organized children's area. There are also audiobooks, Tonies, board games, and films. Reading corners with cushions invite browsing without having to borrow anything right away. Free picture-book cinema, read-aloud hours, readings, and hands-on activities run regularly.

Membership is free for children and teenagers up to 18; adults pay an annual fee. With a library card, digital offerings such as Onleihe or Filmfriend can also be used. Returns can be made at any of Hamburg's 35 library branches.

The location on Norderreihe, a few steps from Holstenstraße S-Bahn station, makes a visit easy to combine with other stops: the Mercado, Altona town hall, and several playgrounds are just minutes away. Often the closest branch for families from Altona, Ottensen, and Eimsbüttel.
