Bücherhalle Eimsbüttel with kids

The Bücherhalle Eimsbüttel is in the Hamburg-Haus on Doormannsweg, in a park opposite the Emilienstraße U-Bahn station. All rooms are on one level on the ground floor, including a children's library. At the moment there is a piano from the Pianohaus Kawai, which guests can play with headphones during service hours, and audibly on Tuesdays from 6 to 7 pm.

On Wednesdays at 4 pm the picture-book cinema runs for children aged 4 and up, and on the last Wednesday of the month in English. On Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 pm volunteers from Lesewelt Hamburg read aloud to 4- to 10-year-olds, both without registration and free of charge. On Thursdays from 4 to 6 pm it is Le(i)sezeit (a pun on "quiet reading time"), when the team asks children and parents in the children's library to keep quiet. Craft activities such as bead bracelets for ages 6 and up are added. The Bücherhallen card costs 3 euros a year for children up to age 8.

With staff on site, the branch is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 7 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, and closed on Sundays. In the mornings the children's area is sometimes accessible only from 11 am because of events. The Hamburg-Haus is expected to be renovated until the end of 2026; the library stays open, but the accessible toilet and changing facilities are unavailable in the meantime. Buses 20 and 25 stop right in front of the building.
