Good to know
At Bücherhalle Altona, families can regularly attend story-time activities, picture-book cinema, search-and-puzzle games, craft afternoons and gaming events like Switch Week. The generous children's area covers everything from picture books to young-adult novels and includes audiobooks, comics, nonfiction, board games and a gaming area with Nintendo Switch. The atmosphere is livelier than in a classic library.
For parents, programs like a knitting circle or Dialog in Deutsch for German learners run in parallel, often alongside childcare. The FlexiBib model lets cardholders aged 18 and up use the rooms during extended hours without staff present.
The library is located on the second floor of the Mercado on Ottenser Hauptstraße; elevators and escalators make the building easy to reach with strollers and wheelchairs. S-Bahn Altona is just a few minutes away, and the area around the Mercado has playgrounds, cafes and the Altona Museum.
