Bücherhalle Alstertal with kids

The Bücherhalle Alstertal is on Heegbarg in Poppenbüttel, with its entrance opposite the main entrance of the Alstertal-Einkaufszentrum. On two floors connected by an elevator, families will find a children's library of its own. Since September 2026 the building also houses a MakerLab with 3D printers, a laser cutter, a plotter and sewing and embroidery machines.

For children there are workshops as part of the VDI-TechnoThek, such as a maker project with the Calliope mini for 8- to 14-year-olds or a detective workshop for 6- to 12-year-olds, each free of charge and with registration by email. The device licenses in the MakerLab are aimed at guests aged 16 and over; younger people need an accompanying adult. Technology kits and STEM games from the TechnoThek can be borrowed with the Bücherhallen card; the card costs 3 euros a year for children up to age 8.

With staff on site, the branch is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 7 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. An accessible toilet with changing facilities is in the children's library. Getting there: S1 to Poppenbüttel and a three-minute walk; returns are also possible outside opening hours.
