What it's about

At the heart of the exhibition is the forest as a multilayered symbol — for untouched nature, adventure, calm, and freedom all at once. On show are illustrations and artworks by six women artists from Germany, Switzerland, and Georgia, who each approach the theme of the forest in their own way and develop their own visual language.

Visitors can take their time letting the works sink in and discover how differently the artists interpret one and the same motif — sometimes playful, sometimes mysterious, sometimes realistic. A visit is especially well suited for children as a way to start a conversation about the forest as a place of imagination, using the pictures as a starting point.

The Kinderbuchhaus at the Altonaer Museum is one of the few places in Germany where original illustrations from children's and young-adult books are on display, run by the nonprofit Forum für Bilder-Buch-Kultur (Forum for Picture-Book Culture).

And tomorrow? It's in the app.
